The VOLTA PRO is ideal for productions filming on-location, such as in remote areas or places where power isn’t reliable, along with extended shooting schedules. And as with other such portable power stations, the quiet operation is a big advantage. Let’s take a closer look.

For nearly 30 years, SWIT has been releasing a wide variety of production products. These include monitors, LED lighting solutions, video transmitters, various accessories, and power solutions. The company recently unveiled the SWIT VOLTA Modular Add-On Battery, a compact power system with a 12.8kWh total capacity when eight units are combined. Plus, the SWIT Transformable ARCA SWISS Plate with V-Mount.

SWIT VOLTA PRO Modular Power Station – features

The SWIT VOLTA PRO Modular Power Station is capable of providing reliable and continuous power to a variety of production products. These include lights, cameras, monitors, laptops, and more. With an output surge of 4800W, SWIT says the VOLTA PRO will provide power to cranes such as the Scorpio and Moviebird.

It features four detachable battery packs that can be easily added to the VOLTA PRO. The unit operates fully with only two packs. Capacity is 8890Wh with four 2222.5Wh modules.

The display showcases power stats in real-time: battery health, remaining runtime, and alerts for atypical conditions. It can enter sleep mode automatically if inactive for 24 hours.

Interfaces include three DC 48V outputs (800W each) and dual AC 230V outputs (2400W total), plus an AC 180-264C charging in (7 hours for full charge) and XT60 port for solar charging (supporting 12-60V at 800W, 12 hours to full charge).

Three VOLTA PRO units daisy-chained. Source: SWIT

The VOLTA PRO can be daisy-chained to provide even more uninterrupted power. This setup is ideal for large-scale productions and those with longer filming schedules requiring reliable power. Additionally, the compact design utilizes Eurobox pallet standards, making it ideal for use in studios and on location. Its footprint is 600mm x 400mm (1.97 ft x 1.31 ft) and weighs 65.5kg (144.4 lbs).

When shooting in the field, weather is always a concern. With NCM (nickel-cobalt-magnesium) lithium cells that are resistant to cold and special low-temperature startup tech, the SWIT VOLTA PRO can work in -20C temperatures (-4F) and up to 50C (122F). Meanwhile, the Power Station’s industrial-grade casing was designed and manufactured to IP54 standards, meaning it will operate in various conditions, including rainy or dusty conditions.

Canon EOS R5 Mark II Corrupted Files and Sandisk Memory Cards – What You Need to Know https://www.cined.com/canon-eos-r5-mark-ii-corrupted-files-and-sandisk-memory-cards-what-you-need-to-know/ https://www.cined.com/canon-eos-r5-mark-ii-corrupted-files-and-sandisk-memory-cards-what-you-need-to-know/#comments Mon, 13 Jan 2025 14:02:19 +0000 https://www.cined.com/?p=367987 Canon recently stated that if you use certain Sandisk SD memory cards with your EOS R5 Mark II, especially in stills mode, you could suffer from corrupted/abnormal files, which are potentially impossible to recover. So, before you buy a memory card for your brand-new camera and your next holiday/family trip – or even worse, client shoot – read below and see which memory card models you should avoid!

The Canon EOS R5 Mark II was released in July 2024, and the least we can say is that it has impressive features. Indeed, the camera has a new 45MP full-frame back-illuminated stacked (BSI) dual-pixel CMOS AF sensor, it can shoot video internally in up to 8K at 60P in 12-bit RAW, it has IBIS, Canon Log 2/Log 3 picture profiles, a new cooling grip to prevent overheating, a full-size HDMI port, and much more. We recently added the camera to our CineD camera database if you want to learn more about it.

The Canon EOS R5 Mark II features two memory card slots: one CFexpress Type B for the most demanding video recording modes and one standard SD card slot for stills, proxy, and compressed video. However, Canon recently issued a statement that using some Sandisk SD memory cards could result in corrupted/abnormal files, especially for stills shooting.

Canon EOS R5 Mark II – Sandisk Extreme PRO SD card issues

Let’s start with the official statement issued by Canon USA:

Still images taken with Canon EOS R5 Mk II may be recorded as corrupted/abnormal due to incompatibility of certain Sandisk Extreme PRO SDXC UHS-II 64GB, 128GB and 256GB V60 cards.

Service Strategy & Support Group
Canon U.S.A., Inc

When writing this article, only three memory cards were affected by this issue: the Sandisk Extreme PRO SDXC UHS-II V60 64, 128, and 256GB. This particular memory card’s 512GB and 1TB models are unaffected. As a fairly logical move, I strongly advise you to avoid these. Sandisk reports you can contact them “if you have one of the incompatible cards about warranty replacement.” However, the Extreme PRO UHS-II V90 SDHC memory cards are all listed as compatible.

I can never stress it enough, but at the end of the day, all your footage is stored on tiny memory cards. Even though no brand is infallible, buying and investing in memory cards and storage solutions from companies you trust is crucial. Also, with so many different memory card standards, shapes, and ratings, ensuring that the memory card you plan on using or purchasing is officially listed as “compatible” with your camera is crucial nowadays.

Since Sandisk was purchased by Western Digital in October 2015, the company has faced reliability issues, especially with their Extreme Portable SSD V2 drives. The fact that the G-Technology brand was turned into Sandisk Professional doesn’t seem to have stopped these issues, and this new SD card issue surely won’t help.

What do you think about this Sandisk issue with the Canon EOS R5 Mark II? Have you already had issues with Sandisk products? What is your go-to brand when it comes to storage solutions? Don’t hesitate to let us know in the comments down below!

Kinefinity EAGLE HDMI e-Viewfinder Launched https://www.cined.com/kinefinity-eagle-hdmi-e-viewfinder-launched/ https://www.cined.com/kinefinity-eagle-hdmi-e-viewfinder-launched/#comments Tue, 07 Jan 2025 14:03:55 +0000 https://www.cined.com/?p=367020 Following the release of the Kinefinity EAGLE SDI e-Viewfinder in July 2024, the company has introduced an HDMI version. It comes with the same 0.7-inch HD Micro-OLED display, zero delay, lower power consumption, lightweight and compact design, and many other features. Let’s take a closer look!

Kinefinity was founded in 2012 and has released a variety of production tools, including cinema cameras like the KineRAW-S35 (their first) and the newest MAVO Edge 6K/8K. Plus, the MAVO mark2 S35/LF cinema camera and MAVO EFP 8K broadcast camera.

The company also has a range of accessories that include the KineMON monitor, the KineMAG Nano SSD, and the KineEVF viewfinder.

Kinefinity EAGLE HDMI e-Viewfinder – features

The new Kinefinity EAGLE HDMI e-Viewfinder works with many different professional cameras featuring HDMI, including cinema cameras, mirrorless, and DSLR. Most of the features found in the EAGLE SDI e-Viewfinder are also present in the HDMI version: Lightweight and compact design (weighing only 348g or 12.28 oz), real-time and sharp image capture without any delays, accurate focus and exposure adjustments, and silent operation.

But the real star of the show is the EAGLE HDMI e-Viewfinder’s 0.7-inch HD Micro-OLED 1080p display with zero delay. It ensures a clear, sharp, and accurate image thanks to advanced 10-bit color processing and overall quality optical design. It supports 1080i, 1080p, and 1080PsF video signals, along with frame rates ranging from 23.97 to 60 fps.

It is highly responsive and features a fast start-up thanks to an FPGA-based hybrid processing architecture. It also comes with focus and exposure assistance tools such as focus peaking, waveform, false color, histogram, and SDI metadata.

The Kinefinity EAGLE HDMI e-Viewfinder also features a built-in diopter, which can be adjusted from -6D to +2D. This is great for shooters with different vision needs, with accommodations from 600 degrees of myopia to 200 degrees of hyperopia.

Kinefinity added an HDMI Type-A input port and a loop-out port so that it can work with multiple monitors simultaneously. It’s powered by a PD USB-C method with 3W low power consumption. And because there is no internal fan, the e-Viewfinder will operate silently. It has a replaceable Rosette design, 1/4″-20, M6 threads, and a Quick-Lock Mount.

Price and availability

The Kinefinity EAGLE HDMI e-Viewfinder is available now and starts at $1,199. Two other options include the Core Kit ($1,399) and Pro Kit ($1,649), which come with different accessories. And, to celebrate the launch of the EAGLE HDMI e-Viewfinder, they are offering a 10% discount until January 25, 2025. You can learn more and make your purchase on Kinefinity’s website.

ZEAPON Micro4 Series Sliders Released – New Quiet Motor with Touchscreen, Safety Lock, and More https://www.cined.com/zeapon-micro4-series-sliders-released-new-quiet-motor-with-touchscreen-safety-lock-and-more/ https://www.cined.com/zeapon-micro4-series-sliders-released-new-quiet-motor-with-touchscreen-safety-lock-and-more/#comments Tue, 31 Dec 2024 14:37:59 +0000 https://www.cined.com/?p=366726 Chinese manufacturer ZEAPON has just released the fourth iteration of their Micro sliders: the Micro4 series. Available in both manual and motorized versions, these compact double-distance sliders can take a maximum payload of 12kg/26.4 lbs horizontally and 4.5kg/9.92 lbs in any other orientation. The motorized versions feature a revamped motor unit, which is quieter and now has a touchscreen. So, let’s take a closer look at what makes the Zeapon Micro 4 sliders stand out in a crowded market.

After a considerable decline in popularity over the last few years, 2024 could be the year of sliders’ return. Indeed, iFootage announced its Shark Slider Nano 2 during IBC 2024, and we recently reviewed the Trexo Converta. As someone who loves to use sliders for corporate and interview shoots, I’m glad manufacturers keep innovating in that area.

After releasing the Micro3 series in July 2022 and the AXIS series in August 2023, ZEAPON is back with the latest iteration of their sliders: the Micro4 series.

ZEAPON Micro4 Series – features

Let’s start with one of the standout features of the Micro4 sliders: its double-distance sliding mechanism. This innovative design allows the slider to offer twice the range of movement compared to its physical length, which can be very handy for filmmakers working in tight or confined spaces.

Six different versions of the Micro4 are available: the M500/M700/M1000, which are manual sliders, and the E500/E700/E1000, which are motorized sliders.

The ZEAPON Micro4 series lengths

The main differences between the models are their length, travel distance, and weight. However, all slider models have a maximum payload of 12kg/26.4 lbs horizontally and 4.5kg/9.92 lbs in any other orientation. So, what’s new with this new fourth series compared to its predecessor?

What’s new?

The track design didn’t change much, but ZEAPON improved the dampening mechanism for smoother results, which is helpful for the manual versions. Also, they added support wheels at both ends of the sliders to prevent the slider from sagging when you reach the end of the track.

The new motor of the ZEAPON Micro4 series sliders

Most of the changes and improvements of these new slider models are located in the motor, which has been completely redesigned from the ground up. Thanks to its new control buttons and touchscreen, the Micro4 doesn’t need a cellphone or app to be operated.

On the motor, you’ll now find a speed adjustment wheel and a normal/high-speed switch button. In terms of speeds, the range goes from 0.18mm/s at 1% speed in normal mode all the way up to 17.8cm/s at 100% in high-speed mode. Furthermore, ZEAPON claims the Micro4 series motor is “ultra quiet” and should not make audible noise in normal-speed mode.

The ZEAPON Micro4 slider can be powered via a power bank or Sony NP-F batteries
The Micro4 slider can be powered via a power bank or a Sony NP-F battery. Image credit: ZEAPON

Like its predecessor, the ZEAPON Micro4 can be powered by one Sony NP-F battery. However, you now have the option to power it externally via a power bank plugged into the motor’s USB-C power input. According to ZEAPON, a single small Sony NP-F550 battery can power the slider for up to 5.5 hours at normal speed and close to 3 hours at high speed.

Price and availability

The ZEAPON Micro4 series sliders are available for preorder now, ranging from €428,95 for the M500 to €572,95 for the M1000, while the motorized version starts at €736,95 for the E500 all the way up to €879,95 for the E1000.

For more information, please visit ZEAPON’s website here.

What do you think about these new ZEAPON sliders? Are sliders still part of your shooting kit? Have you ever used ZEAPON sliders? Don’t hesitate to let us know in the comments below!

Vocas Cage and Top Cheese Plate for the Canon EOS C80 Released https://www.cined.com/vocas-cage-and-top-cheese-plate-for-the-canon-eos-c80-released/ https://www.cined.com/vocas-cage-and-top-cheese-plate-for-the-canon-eos-c80-released/#respond Tue, 31 Dec 2024 09:07:08 +0000 https://www.cined.com/?p=366695 As the Canon EOS C80 slowly hits the shelves worldwide, third-party accessory manufacturer Vocas recently released their cage and top cheese plate rigging solutions. Made entirely of aluminum, these accessories will add plenty of 1/4″-20 and 3/8″-16 mounting points to your camera. So, let’s take a closer look at them!

At the beginning of September 2024, Canon announced the EOS C80. This compact camera features the same 6K BSI Full Frame image sensor as the Canon EOS C400, and it includes numerous Canon EOS C70 user feedback, including a new brighter built-in screen, the addition of a 12G-SDI output port, an improved autofocus system, a new triple base ISO, and so on. My colleague Johnnie did an entire review of the camera that you can watch here. The Canon EOS C80 was even elected as one of CineD’s cameras of the year.

As the camera starts to be delivered to content creators worldwide, more manufacturers are beginning to release their rigging solutions for it. Dutch manufacturer Vocas is joining the party by releasing a cage and top cheese plate for the Canon EOS C80.

Vocas cage for the Canon EOS C80

The Vocas cage for the Canon EOS C80 is a half cage entirely made of aluminum, which won’t add much weight to your camera package since it only weighs 250g/0.55 lbs. This cage attaches to your camera via five screws at the top and bottom, so it won’t twist or come loose. On the cage, you’ll find a plethora of 1/4″-20 Pin Lock and 3/8″-16 Pin Lock mounting points. Also, it has a cold shoe mount on the top’s right side.

At the top of the cage, you’ll find a 1/4″-20 mounting point with Canon’s anti-twist ridges, making it compatible with the stock top handle. Furthermore, the cage doesn’t obstruct the hot shoe at the back of the camera. Even if the Canon EOS C80 now has a built-in electronic level, Vocas included a built-in level at the back of the cage.

Even though the Canon EOS C80 now has a 12G-SDI output, it still has an HDMI output port. This Vocas cage has a right-angle HDMI adapter and clamp, so your camera’s HDMI connector stays safe and secure.

Vocas top cheese plate for the Canon EOS C80

If you want to keep your Canon EOS C80 more minimalistic but still benefit from extra mounting points, Vocas has a top cheese plate available. This plate secures your camera via two screws and gives you three 3/8″-16 Pin Lock and six 1/4″-20 Pin Lock mounting points, a cold shoe, and the same built-in level as the cage.

Price and availability

The Vocas cage for the Canon EOS C80 is available now for $320.27/€285.11, while the top cheese plate is €123.48. Of course, both products are compatible with other Vocas accessories, such as their top handles, baseplates, and RF to PL/LPL lens mount adapters.

For more information, please visit Vocas’ website here.

ARRI ARTEMIS 2 Live Introduced – Compact & Lightweight Camera Stabilizer for Live Productions https://www.cined.com/arri-artemis-2-live-introduced-compact-lightweight-camera-stabilizer-for-live-productions/ https://www.cined.com/arri-artemis-2-live-introduced-compact-lightweight-camera-stabilizer-for-live-productions/#respond Mon, 23 Dec 2024 11:17:19 +0000 https://www.cined.com/?p=366417 The ARRI ARTEMIS 2 Live high-end and compact camera stabilizer has been unveiled. It is highly mobile and seems perfect for live events, such as sports, concerts, and more. Let’s take a closer look!

ARRI has a wide range of products, from highly acclaimed cinema cameras and lenses to lighting solutions and camera stabilization systems. They have also become a specialist in virtual production. The company recently unveiled the ALEXA 265, a smaller 65mm camera.

ARRI ARTEMIS 2 Live camera stabilizer – features

ARRI has two camera stabilizer systems, the TRINITY 2 and ARTEMIS 2. These systems are modular and versatile for stabilized filming. However, with live production in mind, the ARTEMIS LIVE 2 was designed to be smaller and more lightweight. Sports, concerts, and other live broadcasts and events benefit from smooth filming, and a solution that isn’t heavy and cumbersome makes operating easier for long periods. Considering Taylor Swift’s concerts ran 3 hours and featured a variety of shooting techniques, lighter and more compact is better.

The ARRI ARTEMIS 2 Live is a highly  modular and upgradable camera stabilizer that can be adapted to fit the needs of the shoot and the operator. The post is shorter while the monitor brackets plus base mount and monitor jockeys have been designed specifically for live shoots and events. It accepts 7-inch monitors. Additionally, a second 5-inch ‘on air’ monitor can be added.

The minimalist design and construction of the ARTEMIS 2 Live is ergonomic and lightweight. And it still fits into the ARRI Camera Stabilizer Systems (CSS), which includes the TRINITY 2 and ARTEMIS 2. It also comes in Ready-to-Shoot sets, such as those designed for use with the Tiffen Volt.

Features include:

  • Ergonomic and minimalist design.
  • Short post for more freedom and legroom during operation.
  • Specially designed lightweight monitor brackets, base mount, and monitor jockeys support a 7-inch monitor (SmallHD, Smart Systems, and TRANSVIDEO).
  • Additional 5-inch ‘on air’ monitor can be added thanks to a second bracket.
  • Can be combined with the Tiffen Volt by adding the ARRI gimbal.
  • Adaptable to different power sources, such as V-mount or Gold-mount batteries.
  • Number of components and accessories for different production needs.
  • TALLY and LBUS allow for hybrid lens control of ENG and cine zoom lenses.
  • Compatible with the ARRI CSS (Camera Stabilizer Systems) and upgradeable to a fully featured rig like the ARTEMIS 2 and TRINITY 2 for other types of cine-style production.
  • Components can also be swapped to transform the TRINITY 2 and ARTEMIS 2 into more lightweight rigs for live productions.

Price and availability

The ARRI ARTEMIS 2 Live is available to order now and starts at $18,000. With live sports gaining popularity and growing TV ratings, plus massively successful concerts from Morgan Wallen, Taylor Swift, Metallica, and others, the ARTEMIS 2 Live will have a great place in live production environments. Portkeys BM5 III WR Firmware Update Released – Wireless Camera Control for ARRI and Nikon https://www.cined.com/portkeys-bm5-iii-wr-firmware-update-released-wireless-camera-control-for-arri-and-nikon/ https://www.cined.com/portkeys-bm5-iii-wr-firmware-update-released-wireless-camera-control-for-arri-and-nikon/#respond Tue, 17 Dec 2024 09:02:10 +0000 https://www.cined.com/?p=366005 Portkeys has recently released a new firmware update for their BM5 III WR 5.5” on-camera monitor. This adds wireless camera control over Wi-Fi for selected cameras, including ARRI and Nikon, and brings several bug fixes and stability improvements. The update is now available for free download.

First announced in 2021, the Portkeys BM5 III WR camera control monitor was only recently replaced by the fourth-generation version, the BM5 IV WR, which is packed with new hardware features and a fully redesigned operating system called CINENORM OS.

As we have previously reported, unfortunately, owners of the BM5 III WR cannot install the new operating system due to hardware limitations, Portkeys claims. However, the company is still showing them some love with a minor, dedicated firmware update. Let’s take a quick look!

On top of this, Sony users now get the ability to adjust white balance and color temperature directly from their BM5 III WR monitor. The list of currently supported Sony cameras is pretty extensive, ranging from Sony Alpha to FX Cinema Line bodies.
